Kansas City, MO – A severe weather threat is building across Missouri, with large hail and damaging winds forecast to strike the Kansas City metro area Tuesday night.

According to the US National Weather Service in Kansas City, the Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk outlook for areas just west of the city, primarily affecting eastern Kansas and extending into western Missouri. The most significant impacts are expected from late Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning.

Forecasters warn of strong south-southeast winds gusting between 35 and 40 mph during the day Tuesday. Temperatures will rise into the 60s across much of the region, setting the stage for unstable conditions by nightfall.

Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The weather service categorizes Kansas City under a level 2 (slight) risk, while counties to the west fall under level 3 (enhanced) for more intense storm activity.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, remain weather aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Power outages and travel disruptions are possible, especially in areas west of the metro. Updates will continue as the storm system nears.
