Kansas City, Missouri – Strong thunderstorms could rattle Kansas City by late Friday afternoon, with wind gusts topping 20 mph and heavy downpours likely.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. Friday, particularly east of I-35. While no severe weather is currently forecast, some of the storms may bring brief, intense rainfall and damaging winds. The chance of precipitation is 50%, and heat index values may push into the mid-90s before storms arrive.

Residents in Wyandotte, Jackson, and Clay counties should be on alert during the evening commute, as storms may reduce visibility and create slick roads. Power outages are possible in areas that experience high wind gusts. Drivers are urged to slow down during downpours and avoid flooded roads.

The active weather continues into Saturday, with additional storms expected in the afternoon and evening. Sunday brings a break from widespread rain, but isolated showers remain possible. By Monday, conditions dry out and temperatures hold near seasonal norms, around 87°F.
