St. Louis, MO – A round of strong thunderstorms is expected to impact Missouri on Thursday, with the most severe activity likely to strike during the evening and overnight hours. Forecasters warn that storms may produce isolated hail up to the size of a quarter, especially in areas along and north of Interstate 70.

According to the US National Weather Service in St. Louis, thunderstorm chances range from 50 to 80 percent throughout Thursday. The most significant risk for large hail exists during the evening and overnight, when stronger cells could develop and track across the northern half of the state.

Communities including Columbia, Mexico, and areas surrounding I-70 may see the brunt of the storm system, which could impact travel and outdoor activities late Thursday. Although the primary hail threat lies north of the interstate, forecasters note that other regions in Missouri are not entirely in the clear.

Residents are encouraged to secure vehicles, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and stay updated via weather radios or trusted alert systems. While the hail is not expected to exceed quarter size, it can still damage vehicles, roofs, and crops if storms intensify.
