St. Louis, MO – Missouri residents are being advised to prepare for a stretch of unsettled winter weather as multiple Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early forecasts. The active pattern may trigger recurring travel disruptions across St. Louis, central Missouri, and the wider Midwest.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strong northwest-flow pattern will send several fast-moving clipper disturbances across the Plains and into the Midwest next week. These systems—often referred to as the “Clipper Express”—can deliver sudden bursts of snow, gusty winds, and rapid temperature drops.
The first disturbance is expected Saturday night, with additional clippers likely to follow in 48-hour intervals. Although exact snow totals remain uncertain, meteorologists warn that even light accumulation may create slick travel during morning and evening commutes across St. Louis, St. Charles, and Jefferson counties.
Forecasters emphasize that the track of each system will determine which parts of Missouri see snow and how intense each burst becomes. Alberta Clippers often develop quickly and may shift direction with little notice, making frequent forecast updates crucial between December 7 and 13.
Travel impacts may extend beyond the St. Louis region into Columbia, Jefferson City, Springfield, Kansas City, and northern Missouri, where cold surfaces and breezy conditions could enhance slick spots.
The NWS encourages residents to monitor daily updates as details sharpen on timing and snowfall potential.
