Springfield, Missouri – Most of southern Missouri will remain dry tonight, but a small window exists for a light wintry mix late tonight into early Wednesday morning, mainly southeast of Springfield, where slick bridges and overpasses could briefly develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, there is a low 20 to 30 percent chance for light precipitation developing overnight as temperatures hover near or just below freezing. Any wintry mix that does occur is expected to be very light and localized, with impacts confined mainly to elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

Statewide, the highest concern is across portions of south-central and southeast Missouri, including areas toward West Plains, Mountain Grove and nearby communities. Springfield, Joplin and much of southwest Missouri are expected to remain dry, though patchy slick spots cannot be ruled out late tonight or near daybreak Wednesday.

Forecasters stress that widespread travel problems are not anticipated with this system. However, motorists traveling southeast of Springfield during the overnight or early morning hours should remain alert for brief icy patches, especially on untreated roads.

Looking ahead, officials are also monitoring a separate system expected to move in this weekend, bringing the potential for accumulating snow and dangerously cold temperatures. While confidence in exact snowfall amounts remains low, residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and watch for additional updates as colder air settles back into the region.
