KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Drivers and residents across Missouri should prepare for a wet and unsettled night as rain and thunderstorms move across the Kansas City metro late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Overnight showers may cause slick conditions along I-70 and other key routes before temperatures climb well above normal midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, a slight chance of storms continues through early Wednesday morning, with gusty winds and brief downpours possible. Officials advise caution on morning commutes and suggest allowing extra travel time in case of wet pavement and reduced visibility.

By Wednesday, sunshine will return, but so will the heat. Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s, with southeast winds picking up. The warming trend accelerates Thursday and Friday as highs climb into the low 90s. With humidity lingering, heat index values may feel closer to midsummer than early September.

The National Weather Service warns that this pattern will dominate into the weekend, offering little relief for outdoor events or construction crews. Residents should stay hydrated, limit outdoor work in the afternoon, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Rain chances briefly return Sunday, but temperatures will remain several degrees above seasonal averages, delaying the arrival of true fall weather.

More advisories may be issued if storms redevelop. Stay alert for additional updates as the week unfolds.
