Overnight storms could create a messy Friday morning across Kansas City as hail, wind, and heavy rain push through western Missouri. Drivers along I-70 and surrounding highways should prepare for reduced visibility and possible delays during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, strong to severe thunderstorms are most likely Thursday night into Friday morning. These storms could produce large hail and damaging wind gusts, making early travel hazardous. Patchy fog may also form before sunrise, further reducing visibility.

Communities across Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Johnson counties face the greatest risk of hail and downed branches during the overnight hours. Emergency officials urge residents to secure outdoor items and charge devices before the storms arrive. Travel should be limited late Thursday night and early Friday morning when conditions peak.

Behind the storms, cooler and calmer weather will return. By Saturday, skies turn mostly sunny with highs in the mid-70s, creating a much more stable fall-like weekend.

Residents should stay alert for weather warnings late Thursday into Friday morning, especially if heading out early for work or school.
