Springfield, MO – A significant storm system is set to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to Missouri, particularly along the I-44 corridor, starting Wednesday night and continuing into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, there is an 80–95% chance of over an inch of rain, with some areas seeing two inches or more. The heaviest rainfall is expected Thursday, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas and near creeks and rivers. Motorists should prepare for reduced visibility, ponding on roads, and possible travel delays, especially along I-44.
Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the upper 50s today and Wednesday before cooling slightly into the upper 40s by Friday. Winds will increase as the storm system moves in, with gusts reaching 20 mph.
Looking ahead, conditions will gradually improve over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will bring partly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid-50s, with drier air moving in. However, residents should remain weather-aware and monitor local forecasts for potential flood advisories.
