Springfield, MO – A wave of unseasonably warm temperatures will blanket Missouri this week, with heat index values climbing toward the low 90s in several cities by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures on Wednesday afternoon may approach record territory, especially in western and southern Missouri. Cities such as Branson, Springfield, and Anderson are expected to experience heat index values between 89°F and 92°F. The hottest period will span from Wednesday into Thursday, with highs ranging from 84°F to 90°F, far above the seasonal norm of 75°F.

The unusual warmth is forecast to persist through Friday. Overnight lows, typically near 55°F for this time of year, will also remain elevated, hovering in the upper 50s to low 70s—close to record maximum lows.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Schools and outdoor workers should take precautions, especially in areas west of U.S. 65, where the heat will be most intense.

While no official heat advisory has been issued yet, this early-season heat event may signal a hotter-than-normal summer ahead. Stay tuned to NOAA and local emergency alerts for updates.
