St. Louis, Missouri – A Frost Advisory is in effect for much of Missouri and western Illinois from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, as overnight lows dip near 33 degrees. The National Weather Service in St. Louis warns that frost formation could harm sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered.
According to the NWS, the advisory covers portions of south-central, southwest, and west-central Illinois, along with central, east-central, and northeast Missouri. Counties under the alert include Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Bond, Marion, Knox, and Audrain, among others.
Residents are urged to take precautions tonight to protect tender vegetation. Covering plants or bringing them indoors can help prevent damage from the early-season cold. Gardeners and farmers may see the first widespread frost of the fall across the region.
While skies will remain mostly clear overnight, light winds will enhance cooling conditions. Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by Friday afternoon, but another chilly night may follow.
Frost advisories remain in effect through 9 a.m. Thursday, with updates expected early Friday from the National Weather Service in St. Louis.
