St. Louis, MO – Heavy thunderstorms are bringing life-threatening flash flooding to northeastern Callaway, central Montgomery, and northern Warren counties this morning. Radar shows that 3 to 6 inches of rain have already fallen, and an additional 1 to 3 inches could occur in the next few hours. The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning that remains in effect until 6 a.m. CDT for these areas, with flash flooding currently in progress.

According to the NWS, heavy rainfall is expected to continue, posing significant risks to roadways and low-lying areas. Local highways, streets, and underpasses are already flooded, especially along parts of Interstate 70 between exits 155 and 200. Locations like Warrenton, Wright City, Montgomery City, and New Florence are among those most at risk for severe flooding. The warning also includes Graham Cave State Park, with heavy rain causing dangerous conditions near creeks and streams.

The NWS urges residents to avoid driving in flooded areas, emphasizing the “Turn around, don’t drown” message. Nighttime flooding, when it’s harder to spot danger, could lead to significant accidents. As of now, conditions remain hazardous, and further flooding is expected.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for parts of Illinois and Missouri until 1 p.m. CDT today, and drivers should remain cautious of lingering road closures.
