Missouri – A cold front moving through Missouri is set to bring the season’s first frost next week, potentially impacting areas along I-44 and U.S. 65. Temperatures are forecast to dip into the 30s by Tuesday, with the National Weather Service in Springfield warning of patchy frost and cooler conditions, especially in higher terrain. The most widespread frost is likely Wednesday morning, when temperatures may fall below 34 degrees across south-central Missouri, creating conditions for the region’s first major frost event this fall.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there is a 50 to 75% chance that areas including Springfield and Branson will see frost Wednesday. Residents in these areas should prepare to cover sensitive plants and protect outdoor equipment that could be damaged by freezing conditions. Morning lows are expected to hit the low 30s in the east and low 40s in the west of Missouri, adding to frost risk.
While uncertainty remains, frost is more likely to occur in areas east of I-44, including Osage Beach and Sedalia. Temperatures in these regions are projected to drop lower than average for mid-October, with the coldest night being Wednesday. If temperatures fall below 32 degrees, the frost could become widespread, particularly in rural areas.
For the upcoming week, daytime temperatures will range from the mid-50s to low 60s. Those traveling on Missouri roadways like I-44 or U.S. 65 should be cautious of potentially frosty conditions during early morning commutes.
