St. Louis, Mo. – Drivers across eastern Missouri face a hazardous Tuesday morning commute as dense fog blankets highways and reduces visibility. Patches of fog along I-70 and I-55 could bring sudden whiteout conditions until midmorning, while strong storms build into the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Forecasters warn that drivers should slow down and use low beams as visibility drops below a quarter mile in some spots. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop later in the day, with the potential for brief downpours and gusty winds through Tuesday night.

Communities from Columbia to St. Louis, including southern Illinois counties near Edwardsville and Belleville, could see repeated rounds of rain. Standing water may pool on major roadways during the Tuesday evening commute. By Wednesday, a 60 percent chance of showers lingers, keeping roads slick for school buses and early travelers.

Thursday brings some relief, though scattered showers remain possible in the afternoon. By Friday, sunshine finally returns with highs near 81 degrees, ushering in a brighter start to the first full weekend of fall.

Residents should prepare for slower travel times through Wednesday and remain alert for changing conditions. Additional advisories are possible if storms intensify.
