Springfield, MO – Residents across southwest Missouri may finally feel a touch of fall next week, but the arrival of cooler air remains uncertain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield.

Forecasters said Friday that temperatures are expected to stay in the 80s through the weekend, well above seasonal averages. According to the NWS, there is high confidence in continued warm and dry conditions through Sunday.

Beginning Monday, October 6, a cold front could move into the region, bringing a 15–30% chance of rain and lowering high temperatures below 75 degrees. However, meteorologists caution that there is still uncertainty. Forecast models show a 30–50% chance that above-normal warmth could persist through the middle of next week, delaying the arrival of true fall weather.

The best chance for cooler air appears Tuesday into Wednesday, with Branson, Springfield, Joplin, and surrounding areas showing a noticeable drop in the probability of highs above 75 degrees.

NWS officials noted that even if the front moves through, fall-like weather may be brief, with temperatures rebounding later in the week.
