St. Louis, MO – A strong cold front will sweep through Missouri tonight, plunging temperatures and creating hazardous wind chills across the region. Residents can expect blustery northwest winds and sharply falling temperatures that could feel as low as -5°F by early Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis, highs today will peak in the mid-50s before the cold front moves in by evening. As the front passes, temperatures will plummet into the teens overnight, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph. These conditions could make travel dangerous on major roadways like Interstate 70 and Interstate 64.
Thursday morning will bring sunshine but little relief from the cold. Highs are only expected to reach 26°F, with continued brisk northwest winds making it feel much colder. The weather stabilizes slightly heading into the weekend, with sunny skies and highs climbing back to the 50s by Saturday.
The NWS advises layering up when outdoors and limiting time exposed to the wind, which can cause frostbite within minutes. Drivers should exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, where icy patches may form.
Looking ahead, rain chances return Sunday afternoon, with highs near 54°F. However, overnight lows through the weekend will remain well below freezing.
