Springfield, Missouri – Unseasonably hot weather is gripping Missouri through Friday, with daytime highs soaring to the upper 80s and low 90s—potentially breaking temperature records. The heat will peak Thursday and Friday, just ahead of a strong cold front that could bring severe thunderstorms across southwest Missouri by Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures are trending 5 to 15 degrees above normal, with widespread highs between 84°F and 91°F through the end of the week. Thunderstorm chances return Friday with a 20% to 50% likelihood, increasing through Sunday. Friday’s storms could become severe, especially in areas stretching from Joplin and Springfield to Rolla.

Cities like Branson, West Plains, and Lebanon could experience damaging wind gusts, hail, and frequent lightning. Residents should review outdoor plans and stay alert for possible watches or warnings. The timing and severity of storms remain uncertain, but forecasters emphasize that the atmosphere will be “conducive for thunderstorms and potential severe weather.”

Saturday and Sunday will remain stormy at times, with rain chances reaching 60% by Sunday. Temperatures will slightly cool but stay above normal.

Additional updates are expected as the weekend approaches. Severe weather outlooks may be upgraded, so Missourians are urged to stay weather-aware through early next week.
