Kansas City, Missouri –Drivers across Missouri should prepare for flooding and travel delays as multiple rounds of heavy rain threaten areas along and south of Interstate 70 through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, between 3 to 5 inches of rain could fall from Friday through Tuesday, with the heaviest rainfall expected Sunday. Areas already experiencing elevated river levels may see renewed or worsened flooding, especially where rain persists over several days. While a few severe storms are possible, officials warn that flooding could pose the greatest hazard this holiday weekend.

Cities facing the highest risk include Kansas City, Sedalia, St. Joseph, Chillicothe, and Butler, all showing 70–90% rain chances Saturday through Monday. Thunderstorms may intensify Friday and Saturday if enough atmospheric energy develops, and a Level 1 Marginal Risk is already in place for parts of the state.

Residents are urged to monitor flood-prone roads and avoid driving through high water. Those in low-lying areas should be ready to act quickly if flash flooding occurs. Power outages and travel disruptions are possible where storms are strongest.

Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday, with additional advisories likely as the system evolves.
