Springfield, MO – A widespread, prolonged period of rainfall is expected across southern Missouri beginning Thursday night and continuing through Saturday, according to the US National Weather Service Springfield.

Forecasters say most areas can expect 1 to 3 inches of total rainfall, with isolated spots possibly seeing slightly higher amounts. Despite the extended rainfall period, no severe weather or flooding is anticipated at this time, the Weather Service reported Tuesday afternoon.

The rain is expected to begin Thursday evening, peak during the day Friday, and gradually taper off by Sunday morning. While widespread flooding isn’t a concern, meteorologists advise travelers to monitor forecasts for any updates, especially if rainfall totals increase later in the week.

The system will bring steady rain and cooler temperatures, marking a noticeable shift from the drier conditions earlier in October. The heaviest rainfall probabilities are centered across southwestern Missouri, including Branson, Joplin, and Springfield, where the chance of seeing 2 or more inches of rain is around 40–50%.

Residents are encouraged to plan for wet roads and slower travel through the weekend and keep an eye on changing conditions, particularly if outdoor events are planned.
