Peculiar, MO – A Cass County traffic stop Friday morning escalated into a chase and two arrests after deputies attempted to stop a vehicle with expired tags on Interstate 49.
According to the Cass County Sheriffโs Office, deputies initiated the stop around 8:30 a.m. near Archie. The driver allegedly fled north into rural Peculiar, eventually abandoning the vehicle and running on foot before deputies caught up with him.
Deputies identified the driver as 34-year-old Shannon Barwick of Exeter, Missouri. He has been charged with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, both felonies. Barwick is being held at the Cass County Jail without bond.
A passenger, identified as 39-year-old John Gray of Goodman, Missouri, was also taken into custody. Authorities said Gray had four active felony warrants from two counties at the time of his arrest. The warrants included charges from McDonald County for felony stealing and third-degree domestic assault, as well as charges from Newton County for first-degree burglary, third-degree domestic assault, and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
Gray is also being held at the Cass County Jail. No bond was listed.
