Jefferson City, MO – Five people died in traffic crashes and one person drowned across Missouri during the 2025 Labor Day holiday weekend, according to preliminary data released by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to the MSHP, the holiday counting period began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday. During that time, troopers investigated 222 crashes, which resulted in 104 injuries and five fatalities. Officers also made over 100 DWI arrests and 14 drug-related arrests statewide.

One person drowned Saturday on Lake of the Ozarks at Public Beach Two in Camden County. A 19-year-old man from Glenwood, Iowa, entered the water under unknown circumstances and did not resurface. The incident occurred in the Troop F area.

Three of the fatal traffic crashes occurred on Saturday. A 52-year-old man from Clarkton died in New Madrid County after crashing his motorcycle into a ditch on a rural road. A 48-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck in Excelsior Springs while walking on southbound Missouri 291. A 46-year-old man from Bunker died in Reynolds County after his vehicle overturned.

Two additional deaths occurred Sunday and Monday. A 42-year-old pedestrian was killed in St. Charles County when she was hit by a vehicle while crossing Missouri 364. A 16-year-old ATV rider died in McDonald County when his UTV overturned on private property near Anderson.

No traffic fatalities were reported on Friday.

Troopers also investigated three boating crashes that led to four injuries and one drowning. No boating fatalities were reported, but one arrest was made for boating while intoxicated.
