St. Louis, MO – A tornado watch is in effect for 65 counties across Missouri, including St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield, until 11 p.m. CDT Friday night. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center issued the alert as severe storms threaten the region with strong winds, hail, and potential tornadoes.

According to the NWS, the watch includes major metropolitan areas such as St. Louis and extends across central and southern Missouri, including Boone, Greene, and Callaway counties. Residents should remain alert as conditions may rapidly change, with storms capable of producing damaging winds exceeding 60 mph and large hail.

The tornado watch also covers independent cities like St. Louis and numerous rural areas, increasing the likelihood of localized power outages and travel disruptions. Authorities urge residents to have emergency plans in place and seek shelter immediately if warnings are issued.

The threat is expected to persist into the evening hours before storms begin weakening overnight. The NWS advises residents to stay informed through local weather updates and heed all warnings from emergency officials.

For real-time updates, residents should monitor the National Weather Service or local news outlets.
