Kansas City, MO – A large portion of northern and central Missouri, including the Kansas City metro, remains under a tornado watch through 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday as severe storms sweep across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 94 includes 31 Missouri counties such as Jackson, Clay, Buchanan, Lafayette, and Pettis. The watch, issued at 2:30 a.m. CDT, signals the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail during early morning hours.
Areas at higher risk include major highways like I-70 and I-35 corridors, where strong wind gusts and brief tornadoes may impact travel. Schools and residents in cities including Independence, Liberty, and St. Joseph should closely monitor weather alerts.
Officials recommend residents secure outdoor items, review emergency plans, and be ready to take shelter on short notice.
Historically, early April brings heightened tornado activity in Missouri, especially in rural counties where warning systems may be limited.
The tornado watch is set to expire at 10 a.m., but continued instability could lead to additional warnings or watches later in the day. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware through local alerts and NOAA Weather Radio.
