Kansas City, Mo. – Tornado sirens could sound across western and central Missouri this evening as a Tornado Watch remains in effect for 38 counties, including Kansas City, Springfield, and Joplin, until 9 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center, conditions are favorable for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail in areas from Atchison and Barry counties eastward through Saline and Pettis. The alert covers major metro areas, as well as key travel routes like I-70, I-44, and U.S. 71.

Cities like Independence, Liberty, and Carthage are urged to monitor weather alerts closely and be prepared to shelter quickly. Outdoor events may be canceled, and residents are advised to keep phones charged and emergency kits nearby. Power outages are possible if strong cells move through.

This watch includes some of the same areas hit by severe weather earlier this month. If you’re in Greene, Buchanan, or Newton County, take today’s alert seriously.

Storm activity is expected to intensify through the evening. More warnings could follow if tornadoes begin to form — stay tuned after dark for further updates.
