Carter County, MO – A large and extremely dangerous tornado is moving through Carter County, Missouri, prompting an urgent tornado warning from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, KY. Residents are urged to seek shelter immediately as the storm poses a significant threat to life and property.

According to the NWS, the tornado was confirmed at 9:22 p.m. CDT near Rover, approximately 8 miles southeast of West Plains. The storm is traveling northeast at 50 mph and is expected to impact Fremont around 10:00 p.m. CDT. Emergency management officials have reported that this is a “particularly dangerous situation,” warning of flying debris, destruction of mobile homes, and significant damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles.

The tornado warning remains in effect until 10:15 p.m. CDT for Carter County. The storm has also been associated with hail as large as two inches in diameter.

Residents in the storm’s path should take cover immediately in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe shelters, and those in such structures should move to the nearest substantial shelter without delay.
