Springfield, MO – Parts of western and central Missouri could see wind gusts up to 60 mph late Friday as a line of strong thunderstorms moves in from the west, raising concerns for power outages and flash flooding after 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather is in effect Friday evening and overnight. The zone stretches from Pittsburgh, Kansas, through Osage Beach, Missouri, and includes towns like Clinton, Butler, and Nevada. The strongest storms are expected to develop after sunset, with wind damage, localized flooding, and frequent lightning possible.

Communities along U.S. 54 and I-49 should prepare for sudden downpours and rapidly changing road conditions. Cities like Joplin, Stockton, and Fort Scott may also experience brief but intense bursts of wind and rain, especially between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, charge devices in advance, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Those in low-lying areas should monitor for flash flooding overnight.

More storm activity is possible through early Saturday. Additional alerts could be issued as the system moves east.
