Kansas City, Missouri – Strong thunderstorms are expected to hit Missouri tonight, bringing quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, especially across western and central parts of the state. The National Weather Service warns that the risk continues through Wednesday, with multiple rounds of severe weather likely.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, isolated strong to marginally severe storms are forecast to develop late Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning. Areas from Columbia to Springfield may experience hazardous conditions, with the greatest threat centered along the Missouri-Kansas border.

Localized flash flooding and damaging winds remain a concern, particularly in areas near Jefferson City and Joplin. Storms could briefly intensify, producing hail large enough to damage vehicles and property. Wednesday afternoon brings another round of storms, some potentially severe.

Drivers should avoid travel during peak storm hours, secure loose outdoor items, and ensure mobile devices are charged in case of outages. Residents in affected counties are urged to stay weather-aware through midweek.

Additional thunderstorm activity is possible Thursday, with continued rain chances into the weekend. Watches and warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
