St. Louis, Missouri – Thunderstorms could roll into St. Louis by early Thursday afternoon, just as heat index values surge past 106°F — a dangerous combo for both drivers and outdoor workers.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday, July 17 will bring a high near 96°F with a 40% chance of storms developing after 1 p.m. Winds out of the north around 6 mph offer little cooling, while roadways like I-70, I-55, and Route 40 may see visibility issues and ponding in heavy downpours.

Friday holds steady with another 40% storm chance and a slightly cooler high of 86°F. Though rain may come and go, the humidity stays locked in through the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will bring continued storm chances (30%) with highs rebounding to the low and mid 90s.

The best advice? Stay hydrated, delay non-essential outdoor activity, and be cautious during the afternoon commute — especially if lightning or heavy rainfall begins to move through the metro.

Looking into next week, Monday and Tuesday keep the pattern going with 30% storm chances each afternoon and highs of 94–96°F. The summer heat wave shows no signs of easing through at least July 22.
