Springfield, Mo. – Storms building across southwest Missouri could bring heavy rain and thunder to the region through Sunday night, creating hazards for drivers and outdoor events. The National Weather Service warns scattered storms may intensify late in the afternoons and evenings, with rainfall totals up to a half inch possible in some areas.

According to the Weather Service in Springfield, storms are most likely between tonight and Sunday, with the heaviest rain developing Saturday night into Sunday. Temperatures remain warm, climbing into the upper 80s Saturday before storms push through. Calm conditions Friday night will give way to a humid and unstable atmosphere this weekend, fueling repeated rounds of rain.

Cities across Greene, Christian, and Webster counties could see frequent downpours and lightning, while roads such as I-44 and U.S. 65 may experience ponding during heavier showers. Residents are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads and to secure outdoor plans as storms approach.

By Monday, showers taper off with clearing skies expected by midweek, offering a stretch of calmer, cooler weather. Additional advisories could be issued if storms become severe.
