St. Louis, MO – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to return across the St. Louis region late Sunday afternoon and continue through the night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Forecasters say storms will begin developing around 3 p.m. Sunday and persist into the overnight hours. The main threats include frequent lightning and heavy rainfall, which could impact outdoor activities and travel across Missouri and southern Illinois.
According to the NWS, there is also a low chance that one or two stronger storms could produce wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, residents are urged to remain weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts.
Officials recommend rescheduling or adjusting evening plans, particularly for outdoor gatherings and sporting events. “If you have outdoor plans this afternoon and evening, have a way to receive weather alerts and be prepared to take shelter if needed,” the NWS advised in a Sunday morning update.
Travelers should also use caution, as heavy downpours may lead to localized ponding on roads. Storm activity is expected to taper off gradually by early Monday morning.
