Springfield, Missouri – Scattered storms could rattle central and southern Missouri Saturday night, bringing the risk of damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail the size of quarters between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may develop late this evening, especially in areas from Joplin to Rolla. The most intense cells could deliver dangerous wind gusts and localized heavy downpours.

Cities like Springfield, Lebanon, and Clinton are in the Level 1 (marginal) to Level 2 (slight) risk zone. Travelers on I-44 and Highway 65 should be prepared for sudden visibility drops and strong gusts that could impact high-profile vehicles. Small hail may also accumulate quickly in some spots, particularly near storm cores.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware, keep mobile alerts enabled, and avoid outdoor plans tonight. If thunder roars, head indoors — and don’t rely solely on sirens during overnight storms.

This is not a widespread outbreak, but any strong cell could turn severe fast. Updates will continue throughout the evening as radar activity develops.
