St. Louis, Missouri – Thunderstorms are set to sweep across Missouri and Illinois this week, threatening travel on key routes like I-70 and I-55 and bringing rain-soaked mornings for St. Louis and surrounding areas. Expect daily disruptions and a heightened risk of flash flooding, especially Tuesday through Thursday. Motorists, students, and anyone commuting across St. Louis, Franklin County, Brooklyn, and the greater metro area should plan for slick roads and possible delays as spring storms intensify.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, thunderstorm chances climb late Monday night, but the main threat ramps up Tuesday and lingers through Thursday night. Showers and thunderstorms will hit hardest Tuesday, with an 80% chance of storms throughout the day and night. The risk continues Wednesday with a 90% chance of showers, and persists Thursday with additional thunderstorms likely.

Communities along I-44 and I-70 in Missouri, as well as I-55 in Illinois, face the greatest risk for hazardous travel and ponding on roadways. Emergency officials advise charging devices, securing outdoor items, and avoiding flooded underpasses. Gusty winds and periods of heavy rain could cause power outages and disrupt morning commutes, especially in St. Louis, Brooklyn, and Granite City.

By Friday, conditions finally improve, with mostly clear skies and highs in the low 70s expected for the weekend.
