Paducah, KY – Severe weather is expected to impact Missouri, Southern Illinois, and Kentucky today, bringing scattered storms, potential tornadoes, and significant rainfall. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings highlighting the risk of wind damage and flash flooding.
According to the NWS, the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl are moving through the region, increasing the likelihood of severe thunderstorms from noon until 9 PM CDT. The storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph, posing a hazard to structures and trees. The areas most at risk include southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and Kentucky.
The NWS has also issued a Flash Flood Watch effective through Wednesday morning, warning of tropical downpours capable of producing 1 to 3 inches of rain on average, with some areas potentially seeing up to 6 inches. This heavy rain may worsen or prolong ongoing flooding along parts of the Mississippi River, impacting communities and local infrastructure.
Residents in Missouri, Southern Illinois, and Kentucky are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for the possibility of isolated tornadoes and flash flooding. The NWS emphasizes the importance of seeking higher ground if flash flooding occurs and staying updated with the latest weather alerts. Campers and those in hilly terrain should be particularly cautious.
