Springfield, Mo. – Residents across the Missouri Ozarks and into extreme southeast Kansas are staring down a stretch of sweltering weather, with highs climbing into the mid- to upper 90s through the weekend. Afternoon heat will peak Saturday and Sunday, pushing some communities near 100 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will steadily rise beginning Wednesday, when highs range from 87 to 91 degrees. By Thursday, readings near 95 are possible, and the weekend is set to deliver the hottest stretch, with highs between 92 and 98. Nighttime lows won’t provide much relief, holding in the upper 60s.
Springfield, Joplin, and West Plains will all feel the brunt of the weekend heat. Communities along I-44 and U.S. 65 are urged to take precautions, as long days of sun combined with high humidity may lead to heat stress. Emergency managers advise residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
No rain is expected during this stretch, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies dominating the forecast. The hot, dry pattern will linger until at least Sunday night, when slightly cooler conditions could begin to move in.
