Paducah, KY – Torrential downpours could swamp western Kentucky today, with up to 2 inches of rain expected in some areas and a risk of flash flooding along creeks and low-lying roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, thunderstorms capable of producing 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are likely throughout the day and into the evening. Localized flooding is possible from southeast Missouri into western and central Kentucky, especially in cities like Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Mayfield, and Madisonville.

Low-lying areas near creeks, small rivers, and poor drainage zones face the greatest risk. Flash flooding could occur rapidly during heavier downpours, particularly in flood-prone spots across counties such as McCracken, Graves, and Christian. Road conditions may deteriorate quickly, with potential closures or water-covered lanes on secondary highways.

Campers and outdoor workers should remain alert, especially in hilly or wooded areas. Officials urge residents to monitor local alerts and prepare to move to higher ground if needed.

Rain is expected to taper off by late evening, but additional flood watches could be issued if storms persist. Stay weather-aware and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
