Paducah, KY – Showers and thunderstorms are pushing across the Quad State area this afternoon, bringing a heightened risk of damaging winds and intense rainfall from Evansville to Paducah.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the main threats for communities across southern Illinois, western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana are isolated wind damage and torrential downpours, with the potential for flash flooding if storms stall over the same locations. The heaviest storms are expected to move through Evansville, Carbondale, Cape Girardeau, and Paducah through 7 p.m. Saturday.
Drivers along I-64, US 41, and I-24 should use caution as brief road flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas and near urban centers. Residents in Union City, Poplar Bluff, and Madisonville may also encounter localized heavy rain and gusty winds capable of downing branches or power lines.
If you’re in the path of these storms, avoid travel during heavy rain, keep mobile devices charged, and monitor local alerts. Never attempt to drive across flooded roads.
Storms could continue into the evening, with additional warnings possible. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service as the threat remains active through tonight.
