Paducah, Kentucky – Hotter temperatures and oppressive humidity will grip the Missouri-Kentucky border starting Thursday, with heat index values peaking near 105° through the holiday weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, mostly sunny skies will dominate the region through Saturday, with highs climbing from 86° today to as high as 95° by Saturday afternoon. Heat index values will rise daily, topping out between 98° and 105° across southeast Missouri and western Kentucky—including Paducah, Mayfield, Cape Girardeau, and Poplar Bluff.

Independence Day celebrations on Thursday could feel especially sticky, with dew points creeping into the 70s and heat index values around 100°. Residents are urged to hydrate, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

A slight chance of thunderstorms enters the picture Sunday afternoon, especially for areas like Sikeston, Metropolis, and Benton. Rain chances increase Monday and Tuesday, potentially offering some relief—but also bringing scattered storms and localized flooding risks.

This marks the first extended heat wave of the summer for the region, and more advisories may be issued.
