Kansas City, MO – The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued Winter Weather Advisories for much of northern and central Missouri and northeast Kansas, as a Monday snow system is forecast to bring 1 to 4 inches of accumulation and create hazardous travel conditions throughout the day.

Snow is expected to begin as early as 5 a.m. Monday across Kansas City, Leavenworth, St. Joseph, and Atchison, then spread east through the morning. The heaviest snowfall is likely across north-central and northeastern Missouri, including Kirksville, Chillicothe, and Macon, where locally higher totals may occur.

Forecasters warn that both the morning and evening commutes could be affected by slick roads and reduced visibility, especially on untreated surfaces and bridges. Even light snow could cause travel slowdowns across metro Kansas City and into surrounding counties.

Residents in eastern Kansas (Johnson, Wyandotte, and Miami Counties) and western Missouri (Cass, Clay, and Lafayette Counties) should plan for extra travel time and monitor updated forecasts.

The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST Monday for the Kansas City metro area and until 9 p.m. Monday farther north.
