KANSAS CITY, KS–MO — A low gray sky stretches over downtown this morning, thick and heavy like a lid. The streets glisten from early drizzle, and that familiar autumn dampness has settled in again across the metro. Showers are returning to Kansas City, marking the start of a cloudy, unsettled weekend across both Missouri and Kansas sides of the metro.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill expects steady light rain to develop late this morning and continue through the day. Friday’s highs reach the mid-50s, with an 80% chance of rain through the afternoon and evening. Winds remain light from the southeast, though damp roads and reduced visibility could slow travel along I-70, I-35, and I-435 during peak commute hours.

Saturday keeps the clouds in place, with scattered showers and highs near 58°F. A few breaks may develop by the afternoon, but moisture lingers through Sunday, when another round of rain could bring up to a quarter inch in some areas. Despite the dreariness, no severe weather is expected — this is a steady, soaking fall pattern, not a stormy one.

By Monday, high pressure returns, clearing skies and bumping temperatures near 60°F. Sunshine builds into Tuesday and Wednesday, offering a short reprieve before another system may approach late next week.

While snow remains distant for now, the winter mindset is setting in. Residents are already glancing ahead to Halloween Friday, which early signals suggest could bring crisp, calm, and dry trick-or-treat weather — a rare gift for late October in the Heartland.
