Missouri starts the morning with dry air and a light breeze moving across the Ozarks, where temperatures sit near 39 degrees in Springfield. The sky looks calm, but conditions are quietly primed for elevated fire weather today.

Southerly winds increase through late morning and into early evening. Humidity stays low, and temperatures climb toward 60 degrees. That mix of warmth and dry air creates an elevated fire risk across the Missouri Ozarks and into extreme southeast Kansas. Even small sparks could spread quickly in open fields.

Avoid outdoor burning today. Secure trailer chains and dispose of cigarettes properly. Fire crews are monitoring conditions closely.

Friday turns even warmer. Sunshine pushes highs to 66 degrees by afternoon. It will feel more like early spring than mid-February. Winds ease slightly, but dry grasses remain receptive to fire starts.

Changes arrive Friday night. Showers develop after midnight, with rain chances increasing to 80 percent. Lows hold near 47 degrees. Wet pavement may greet early drivers.

Saturday looks soggy. Rain becomes widespread, with a 100 percent chance of showers and highs near 55 degrees. Embedded lightning is possible at times. Plan extra travel time if you have Valentine’s Day plans. Ponding could develop on Campbell Avenue and along U.S. 65.

Showers taper Saturday night. Sunday rebounds with sunshine and highs near 61 degrees.

Early next week brings a strong February thaw. Highs reach the upper 60s Monday and surge into the low 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday. The 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures and continued rain chances. Spring vibes are building across southern Missouri.
