St. Joseph, MO – A widespread dense fog event is creating hazardous travel conditions across northern Missouri and northeast Kansas this morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday for dozens of counties, including communities such as St. Joseph, Kirksville, Maryville, Macon, Moberly, Chillicothe, and Troy, KS.
Visibility has dropped to a quarter-mile or less in many areas, significantly increasing travel risks during the early morning commute. The advisory spans northeast Kansas and north-central, northeast, and northwest Missouri, covering more than 20 counties.
Officials urge motorists to reduce speed, keep headlights on, and maintain safe distance from other vehicles. Sudden stops or lane changes should be avoided as other drivers may have limited reaction time in dense fog.
The weather service expects conditions to improve gradually after sunrise, but drivers should remain cautious until the advisory expires later this morning.
