Springfield, MO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for far southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri due to dangerous fire conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

The affected areas include Crawford and Cherokee counties in Kansas, along with Barton, Jasper, Dade, Greene, Webster, Newton, Lawrence, Christian, McDonald, Barry, and Stone counties in Missouri.

Forecasters warn that dry conditions, strong winds, and warm temperatures will significantly increase the risk of wildfires. Southwest winds are expected to range from 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Humidity levels could drop as low as 15%, while temperatures climb to 80 degrees.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and to exercise extreme caution with any activities that could spark a fire. Any flames that develop will spread rapidly under these conditions.

Residents are advised to stay updated on local fire conditions and follow any restrictions issued by emergency management officials.
