KANSAS CITY, MO – The early December wind howls across rooftops and highways this morning as gusts near 50 mph sweep through northwest and central Missouri, tugging at holiday decorations and shaking tree limbs along I-70 and I-35.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, the region will stay breezy through midday before calmer conditions arrive by evening. Wind speeds between 20–30 mph, with higher gusts up to 50 mph, are expected to taper as a cold front passes, ushering in a stretch of cooler, quieter weather heading into the weekend.

Commuters should secure outdoor items and use caution on bridges and open stretches where crosswinds could make driving difficult. “This system will bring a noticeable drop in temperature,” forecasters noted, adding that by Thursday morning, much of northern Missouri will wake to subfreezing lows in the 20s.

Thursday stays partly sunny and crisp, with highs near 50°F, but Friday cools further into the upper 30s under mostly sunny skies. The chill deepens into the weekend, with Saturday’s highs near 32°F and Sunday morning starting in the mid-20s.

Five-Day Outlook (Kansas City, MO):
