Springfield, MO – A dense fog advisory has been issued for several counties in Missouri from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Friday, impacting central, eastern, and southern areas of the state. The advisory, released by the National Weather Service (NWS) offices in Springfield and St. Louis, warns of visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less, posing potential hazards for drivers.

According to the NWS, the advisory will affect counties including Morgan, Miller, Maries, Pulaski, Phelps, Dent, Howell, Oregon, Shannon, and Texas. In central and northeast Missouri, Knox, Shelby, Monroe, Boone, Audrain, Moniteau, Cole, Osage, Callaway, Montgomery, Gasconade, and Crawford counties are also under the advisory.

The NWS warns that brief drops to the freezing mark in the eastern Ozarks could cause fog to freeze on elevated surfaces, though no road impacts are expected. Motorists are advised to exercise caution by slowing down, using headlights, and allowing extra stopping distance.
