Des Moines, IA – Iowa is bracing for an intense heat wave as temperatures are expected to soar to 110° on Tuesday, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a heat advisory for much of Southwest and Central Iowa and parts of Northern Missouri.

According to the NWS, the heat advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The highest heat indices will be experienced in the southwestern and southern regions of the advisory area, including cities such as Council Bluffs, Atlantic, and Des Moines. The excessive heat warnings also cover areas in eastern Nebraska and northern Missouri, adding to the widespread concern.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures, such as staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoiding prolonged outdoor activities, and checking on vulnerable populations like the elderly and pets. The NWS emphasizes the importance of limiting time outdoors to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Forecasters warn that the extreme heat can cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke if proper precautions are not taken. They recommend staying in air-conditioned environments as much as possible and wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
