ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The first hint of winter may arrive on the wind this weekend. Clouds thicken over the Mississippi Valley today, and by Sunday morning, a few flakes could dance across bridges and rooftops from St. Louis to Edwardsville.

Forecasters say a weak system sweeping across the central U.S. will bring light rain transitioning to flurries late tonight through early Sunday. Accumulation looks minor — likely under an inch — but roads could turn slick north of I-70 where temperatures dip near freezing. Northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph will add a sharp chill to the air by daybreak.

Sunday afternoon turns drier but colder, with highs struggling to reach the low 40s. It will feel brisk under partly cloudy skies as the early-November chill settles in. Monday morning lows in the upper 20s will mark one of the coldest starts of the season so far — a signal that the growing season has ended for most of Missouri and Illinois.

The chill won’t last long. Sunshine returns Monday and Tuesday, bringing gradual warming through Veterans Day when highs rebound into the upper 50s. Midweek looks pleasant and dry, with highs in the 60s — perfect for fall cleanup or early holiday decorating.

Still, this weekend’s flurries offer a clear “winter tease” for the Midwest. Residents should bundle up, check travel times along I-70, and keep an eye on gusty winds as the first real taste of winter air brushes the Gateway City.
