St. Louis, Missouri – Drivers across eastern Missouri and western Illinois have less than three hours to prepare before wet snow begins coating roads, potentially creating slick bridges and overpasses ahead of the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday for parts of northeast and east-central Missouri and southwest Illinois. Most areas will see up to 1 inch of accumulation, but localized bands could drop 2 to 4 inches, especially north and west of St. Louis.

The advisory includes St. Louis, St. Charles, and surrounding Missouri counties such as Lincoln, Warren, Pike, Audrain, and Marion. In Illinois, Greene, Macoupin, Madison, Jersey, Calhoun, Adams, and Pike counties are under the advisory. Major corridors including I-64, I-70, I-55, and stretches of U.S. 61 could become slick as pavement temperatures cool after sunset.

MoDOT crews are monitoring conditions, and Illinois drivers can check live updates through IDOT’s Getting Around Illinois system. Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time for the Monday morning commute.

Snow tapers before sunrise Monday, but untreated roads may remain slippery through mid-morning. Additional advisories could be issued if heavier snow bands develop overnight.
