Missouri roads could turn slick within hours as rain shifts to wet snow across the St. Louis metro, especially on bridges and overpasses before the early commute. Pavement may stay wet at first, but grassy and elevated surfaces could pick up slushy coatings quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, rain is expected to transition to snow across parts of northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois, with up to 2 inches possible mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces. Temperatures fall into the upper 30s tonight, allowing pockets of slush to develop before daybreak.

Today stays quiet with sunshine and highs near 64°F, but clouds increase into the evening. By Tuesday, skies partially clear with a cooler high near 55°F, though any leftover slick spots could linger early, especially along I-64, I-70, and I-44.

A rapid warmup follows. Wednesday jumps to 73°F with gusty southeast winds, drying roads and improving travel conditions. That spring surge continues into Thursday with highs near 71°F, but scattered showers and thunderstorms develop after 1 p.m., potentially slowing the afternoon commute.

Storm chances increase further by Friday, with showers likely and a few thunderstorms possible. Wet roads and brief downpours could impact visibility across both Missouri and Illinois sides of the metro.

Plan extra time for early travel Tuesday and watch for slick patches on untreated surfaces. Keep headlights on in any precipitation and stay alert for changing conditions.
