Missouri – A gray winter sky hangs low over the Mississippi River as cold air settles in. Pavement looks dry at first glance, but winter still demands attention.
Early this morning, temperatures hover near 28 degrees in St. Louis. Light snow may brush areas along and east of the Mississippi River, including parts of southwest Illinois. Any accumulation stays minor, generally around an inch or less, but visibility may briefly dip. Bridges and overpasses along I-70, I-55, and I-64 could turn slick during passing snow.
Clouds linger through the morning before breaking at times this afternoon. Highs reach near 38 degrees, offering modest relief but not enough to melt everything. Drivers should stay alert for patchy slick spots, especially in shaded areas and on untreated roads.
Tonight remains quiet but cold. Temperatures slide to around 29 degrees, allowing melted snow to refreeze. This is prime time for flash freezing, particularly on sidewalks and neighborhood streets. Slow down if traveling late.
Tuesday brings a small call-out. A weak disturbance may trigger a slight chance of snow, mainly during the day. Accumulation looks limited, but even light snow can disrupt commutes in February. Highs reach near 34 degrees, keeping conditions cold enough for lingering slick pavement.
By Wednesday, skies brighten. Sunshine mixes with clouds as highs hold near 30 degrees. The cold eases slowly, not suddenly. Wednesday night dips to the mid-teens, reminding the region winter still has a grip.
A noticeable warm-up arrives Thursday. Temperatures climb to around 40 degrees with mostly sunny skies. Snowmelt increases, and roads turn wet rather than icy by afternoon.
Looking ahead to the Feb 6–8 weekend, conditions trend calmer with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. No major storms appear imminent, but February can change quickly.
Plan extra time during light snow periods, watch for refreeze after dark, and stay weather-aware. Did you notice slick spots near the river this morning?
