Missouri – The air feels warm and still across St. Louis early this afternoon, but changes are already lining up as storms begin to organize to the west. Clouds will gradually build, and the atmosphere will become more unstable heading into the next 24 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Tuesday afternoon, increasing into a more active pattern by Wednesday when storm chances jump to around 70 percent across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois. Some storms may bring brief heavy rain and lightning.

Across the St. Louis metro, including I-64, I-70, and I-44 corridors, drivers should plan for changing road conditions by midweek. Wet pavement and sudden downpours could slow traffic, especially during the afternoon and evening commute windows. Keep headlights on and allow extra distance between vehicles.

Temperatures climb quickly before storms arrive. Highs push near 88 degrees Tuesday, adding a summer-like feel. That warmth helps fuel stronger storm development by Wednesday, when highs ease slightly into the low 80s but humidity remains elevated.

Conditions may shift quickly once storms develop. Gusty winds and localized heavy rain could reduce visibility in minutes. Have a backup indoor plan and keep mobile alerts enabled.

By Thursday, rain chances taper slightly to around 40 percent, with a mix of sun and clouds returning. Another round of scattered storms is possible heading into Friday, keeping the pattern unsettled but warm.
