Missouri — Breezy skies sweep across the St. Louis metro this morning, sunlight cutting through thin clouds as Thanksgiving travelers fill interstates and airports across the region. The air is crisp but comfortable — a welcome break before a sharp turn toward winter-like weather later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Thanksgiving Day will stay sunny and mild, with highs in the low 40s and light northwest winds. Roads across I-64, I-70, and I-55 will stay clear through Thursday, giving travelers a smooth start to the long holiday weekend.

But forecasters warn that the calm won’t last long. By Friday evening, a stronger system moves in from the west, bringing rain that could mix with snow overnight into Saturday. The temperature drop may lead to slushy roads and slick bridges, especially north and west of the metro. While heavy accumulation isn’t expected yet, forecasters say early snowflakes could mark the start of a colder, more active pattern heading into December.

Saturday looks to stay cold, windy, and wet, with highs near 40°F and 80% rain/snow chances. Those venturing out for Black Friday shopping or college football games should dress for raw, windy conditions. By Sunday, skies clear slightly, but another cold rain–snow mix may return early next week.

Beyond the weekend, weather models are tracking a major Arctic front poised to sweep across the Midwest starting December 1–3, bringing the coldest air of the season so far — and perhaps a wider swath of snow for early December travelers.
